The Quality of Our Thoughts
What kind of thoughts are we allowing to shape our lives?
Beware of the quality of our thoughts. They quietly influence everything: the way we speak to ourselves, the way we speak to others, and the way we see the world.
A thought repeated often enough can become our inner voice. That inner voice becomes words, and words have consequences.
They can encourage or discourage. They can heal or wound. They can create possibilities—or bring them to an end.
Words are thoughts in action.
Words and Thoughts Are Spells
Throughout history, many spiritual and philosophical traditions have treated words with profound respect.
“In the beginning was the Word.”
But before the word, there was a thought.
Thoughts carry meaning. Words carry intention and emotion. In this way, thoughts and words can become spells—not because they possess some mysterious power of their own, but because they influence what we believe, what we communicate, and what becomes possible.
Once a thought becomes a word, it does not simply disappear. It continues through the conversations it shapes, influences the relationships we build, and changes the atmosphere around us.
Our words can even reveal the thoughts we believed we had hidden. Eventually, they may return to us as thoughts again, carried within the memories that remain.
Listening to the Inner Voice
This is why the quality of our thoughts matters—and why we should try to keep them as pristine as possible.
Once in a while, we can stop and listen to the voice within the mind.
What is it telling us? Is it creating possibilities or closing them? Is it encouraging or discouraging? Is it healing or wounding?
Is it speaking with compassion—or repeating something we would never say to someone we love?
Is that voice beautiful or ugly?
We may not be able to control every thought that enters the mind, but we can become more conscious of the thoughts we choose to repeat, believe, and turn into words.
A different thought can become a different word. A different word can create a different response. Sometimes, that small change can alter the direction of an entire moment.
Beware of the quality of our thoughts.
Be mindful.
Be present.
No ordinary thoughts.
No Ordinary Me.
